Don't mow the lawn ‘til you're sixteen,

Be careful not to trampoline,

Avoid the family dog and such

And don't fall out of windows much.

Every season entails risk, and summer is no different.  Some summer risks are obvious; swimming injuries, bicycle accidents, and insect bites are pretty well-recognized risks of summer. But it’s the hidden hazards that may catch you and your kids unaware.

Our evidence-based list of kids’ unexpected summer health hazards was written with a view to keeping children safe.  Prepare to be surprised.  We were.  Read MedPie.com’s Top 5 Hidden Health Hazards of Summer and do your own risk-benefit analysis.

1) Summer weight gain: Hiding indoors and eating: the riskiest behavior of all
2) Dog bites: More frequent in summer, and the likely culprit is the dog you live with.
3) Trampoline injuries: Don’t even think about letting your kid get on one without a safety net.
4) Lawn mower accidents:  Alarmingly common and often require hospitalization.
5) Falls: From where? The tree house, rope swing, and unsecured window.

After you've read each one, you’ll be armed with the necessary information to understand the risks.  Then get out there with the kids and avoid risk number one.
