Supermodel Heidi Klum will be hosting this year's Victoria Secret Fashion Show airing December 1st on CBS. The thing is, she just gave birth to her 4th child, and she expects to lose 20 pounds.
Ms Klum attributes her weight loss to breast feeding. There's something to this strategy: Baker et al determined that exclusive breast feeding for 6 months should all but eliminate post partum weight retention in most women. And women who have had children before gain less weight the second or third time aroung than with with first children, so she may not have as much to lose.
Having a little nutritional knowledge would help as well. Ms. Klum strikes me as the type of patient that pays attention to nutrition. Women who scored higher on nutritional knowledge were more likely to retain less than 5% of the weight gained during pregnancy at 12 months postpartum according a study by Nuss et al.
And a little exercise helps too; the combination of diet and exercise beats dieting alone for losing weight after childbirth because exercise preserves muscle mass and improves the cardiorespiratory fitness level according to A Cochrane review performed by Amorim et al. We bet that Ms. Klum will have the weight "auf" and steal the show.
